About me
My name is Michael Hilton and I am a 59-year old male. I am now retired and live in Brisbane, QLD, Australia. I have had Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) since I was 15-years old (1981). I remember clearly the day I went to a General practitioner (GP) about the aching, creepy crawly feeling in my legs and the irresistible urge to move my legs while I was trying to go to sleep. Fair play to the GP he correctly diagnosed me with RLS. However, the GP informed me that there weren't any treatments available. I was very disappointed. It wasn't until the year 2010 (29-years after the first diagnosis) that I mentioned to my doctor about the restless legs. That doctor put me on Sifrol (250mcg) for the RLS. That treatment changed my life. I know that sounds a little dramatic but life without RLS is so much better. Treatments had come along way since 1981 when there were no treatments.
I recently found myself in the position whereby I couldn't take my Sifrol tablets and the RLS returned with a vengeance. This RLS recurrence spurred me on to do some research into RLS and collate the information into a document that other RLS sufferers would find useful. This led me to developing this website as an educational tool for those with RLS symptoms.
I have a history of doing research at several institutions including Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research, Harvard Medical School, University of Warwick, Birmingham Heartland Hospital.
In total I have been either a first author or a contributing author on 39 scientific papers. I have the skill of collating information and putting it into an understandable format.
My hobbies include photography and creative writing.
